Mt. Brilliant/ELG wins 11-9 in
Wanderers Classic match

Mt. Brilliant/Equine Law Group charged out to an 8-4 halftime lead before hanging on to
score an 11-9 win over Floridian Community Bank in Friday’s 14-goal Wanderers Cup
play.

Mt. Brilliant/ELG rang up three first chukker goals with Julian Daniels and Kris Kampsen
each scoring on penalty goals and Avery Chapman adding a goal from the field.
Floridian Community Bank got a single goal on a 40-yard penalty conversion from Luis
Escobar. After the first chukker, Mt. Brilliant/ELG was on top, 3-1.

Two more goals from Kampsen (one on a penalty shot) in the second and a goal from
Chapman put Mt. Brilliant/ELG in the lead by a 6-3 score. Floridian Community Bank
registered single goals from Escobar and Zenon Cardoner but trailed by three goals.

Mt. Brilliant/ELG’s Bo Goodman scored twice in the third while holding Floridian
Community Bank to a single goal on a penalty conversion from Escobar. At the end of
the first half Mt. Brilliant/ELG held the lead, 8-4.

It was more of the same for Floridian Community Bank in the fourth chukker with Mt.
Brilliant/ELG picking up single goals from Goodman and Daniels. Floridian Community
Bank answered with a single goal from the field from Escobar but trailed, 10-5.

Goodman’s fourth goal of the game had Mt. Brilliant/ELG in the lead by six goals, 10-4,
when the Floridian Community Bank stirred. A pair of goals from the field from Escobar
cut the lead down to four goals, 11-7, as the fifth chukker ended.

The Floridian Community Bank team tried to turn it around in the sixth and final chukker,
but Mt. Brilliant/ELG would have none of it. Single goals from Diego Arellano and
Cardoner brought them to within two goals of Mt. Brilliant/ELG, but that was where it
ended. Mt. Brilliant/ELG (1-1) celebrated its first win in Wanderers classic competition
while the Floridian Community Bank record fell to 0-3.

Luis Escobar led all scoring with six goals (two on penalty shots). Cardoner added two
goals and Arellano added a goal in the loss. Goodman’s four goals set the pace for a
balanced Mt. Brilliant/ELG attack. Kampsen added three goals (two on penalty shots)
and Daniels and Chapman each scored twice in the win.

TONKAWA 11, EQUUS & COMPANY 10

Nic Roldan and Brandon Phillips each scored four goals in leading Tankawa to an 11-
10 win over Equus & Company Friday afternoon in Wanderers Classic competition. The
victory gives Tankawa an unblemished 3-0 record while Equus & Company fell to 1-1.

Equus & Company received two goals by handicap, with Brad Blake (4) filling in for
Matias Obregon (5), and managed a single goal from Jared Zenni for a first chukker
lead of 3-2. Tonkawa’s Nic Roldan scored twice in the first seven minutes as Equus &
Company took the early 3-2 lead.

Tonkawa stepped it up a notch in the second period. Brandon Phillips converted two
penalty shots and Roldan added a goal. A disciplined defense shut down the Equus &
Company attack as Tonkawa moved in front, 5-3.

Brad Blake added two goals from the field to the Equus & Company total with Tonkawa
being limited to a single goal from Phillips. Tonkawa continued to lead, but the margin
was cut to a single goal, 6-5, at the end of the first half.

Zenni tied it up with a goal from the field to open the second half, but a spirited Tonkawa
team responded with force. Single goals from Phillips, team captain Jeff Hildebrand
and Agustin Arellano were followed by a penalty goal from Equus & Company’s Blake.
After four chukkers of play, Tonkawa held a 9-7 advantage.

Blake got Equus & Company right back into the thick of it in the fifth. A 40-yard penalty
goal and a goal from the field had it all even at 9-9. However, Roldan closed out the
scoring with his fourth goal of the day to put Tonkawa ahead, 10-9.

The tempo of the game continued to build into the final chukker f play. Blake squeezed
one more goal out of a miserly defense to knot it up at 10-10, but that would be as close
to a win as they would get. Hildebrand scored the winning goal for his team with the
final score of the match.

Blake led all scoring with six goals. Zenni added two and the team received two goals
by handicap. Roldan and Phillips scored four goals apiece. Hildebrand was credited
with two goals and Arellano scored once in the win.
